Although Safety Harbor was originally incorporated in 1917, it has been inhabited since the stone age. In 2008 a 6,000 year old stone spearhead was found.
In the 1500’s Spanish explorers found the area populated by the Tocobanga and Timuquan tribes. Their burial grounds still remain as a reminder of Safety Harbor’s rich history.
Due to its location at the top of the bay, Safety Harbor was named for being “safe” from the threat of pirates.
Today, Safety Harbor is a desirable place to live in Pinellas County Florida with access to Tampa Bay, beautiful parks and monthly festivals.
